Introducing Puyo!
(Original of this post you can find at – Reachmahjong.com)
For the last year I have had the privilege of writing a regular column with Kelvin “Puyo” Ng, from Hong Kong, about mahjong in a Macau-based magazine called World Gaming Magazine. Puyo and I are both Reach-based mahjong players, but we’ve collaborated to broaden our coverage, emphasizing on Chinese-based rules as well. Puyo is a regular Mahjong Fight Club player and keeps a blog in Chinese about Japanese mahjong. Puyo has worked as a senior official at the World Series of Mahjong and was a member of the RM.com/WGM team at the 2010 event.
One of our avid readers, xKime, has volunteered to translate Puyo’s blog so that our English audience can enjoy this expert’s insight. Twice a month we will introduce one of Puyo’s blogs. This first one is an introduction in tile efficiency. So enjoy and if there’s a subject you’d like more info on e-mail us and maybe Puyo will oblige!

World Riichi Mahjong Championship: Paris, 2014
TOKYO/PARIS – It were two historic meetings, last week in the Japanese capital of Tokyo. Gemma Collinge of Reachmahjong.com and Martin Rep of MahjongNews.Com, shook hands with Mr. Shigekazu Moriyama, CEO of the Japanese Pro Mahjong League. They had just finished talks about the first ever World Championship Riichi Mahjong.
“Mission completed”, smiled Martin Rep and Gemma Collinge after the last meeting, which they concluded with a ‘high five’. Immediately after that, they started writing their report for the European Mahjong Association (EMA) and the Paris riichi mahjong club TNT (Tri Nitro Tiles).
“Japanese House” Cup in Moscow
Cup “Japanese House” on riichi-Mahjong – the largest annual competition of the Japanese mahjong in Russia with the challenge cup and prizes for the winners. The purpose of the Cup – the development riichi-mahjong in Russia as the sport of competitive games. In 2013, the Cup has collected more than 60 players from Japan, Korea, Ukraine and more than 10 cities of Russia. Cup became a partner of the company «Nintendo», and media coverage has taken the newspaper “Asahi Shimbun”.
One of the main events of mahjong Russia has long come to an end, but this event is worth mentioning. After all, the first place was our compatriot Dmitry Varchenko from Dnepropetrovsk, with which we congratulate him.
In the Cup has its own website, which contains information on the most tournament. Many photos and a detailed analysis of the results clearly showing the effectiveness of the seating arrangement of players followed at the tournament.
